4th Toronto International Deaf Film & Arts Festival (TIDFAF) May 9 – 12, 2013
Inside the prestigious Randolph Theatre Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, the Toronto International Deaf Film & Arts Festival (TIDFAF) is set to take center stage for the 4th biannual international film & arts festival May 9-12,2013.
“We continue to bring our audiences the very best and brightest of talent with this year’s selection of a record-breaking 20-plus shorts and feature film screenings, arts exhibits, filmmaker industry workshops, gala and awards ceremony events,” says award-winning filmmaker Catherine MacKinnon, Festival Director & Co-Founder. “TIDFAF celebrates Deaf culture by providing a platform for Deaf artists and by helping to bridge the gap between Deaf and hearing communities across the globe,” explains MacKinnon.
TIDFAF kicks off its Red Carpet Gala opening night (May 9) with documentary short Crossing the Divide (Cathy Heffernan, 2012, England) and the Canadian debut of director Judy Lief’s international award-winning feature film Deaf Jam (2010 , USA)(www.deafjam.org). In attendance: Cathy Heffernan, Judy Lief and Deaf Jam featured poet Tahini.
On May 10 TIDFAF, in partnership with the Deaf Culture Centre and the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf will present the 2013 Deaf Arts Canada Exhibit & Defty Awards. Canadian director/media artist Chantal Deguire’s short film Alores On Danse/ So, We Dance will be one of 3 shorts featured during this ceremony. The founder of Iran’s first Deaf School Djabbar Baghchehban is celebrated in the other two international shorts.
